What is World Protest Song Day?

World Protest Song Day is an annual event that reflects on the power of music as a tool for protest. A day filled with debates, performances, exhibitions, and documentaries, organized by Slachthuis Haarlem in collaboration with, among others, Haarlem Vinyl Festival.

When and where does it take place?

The first edition will take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Slachthuis Haarlem.

Who is the festival for?

Everyone is welcome! The program is designed to appeal to music lovers, activists, programmers, artists, students, teachers, policymakers, and curious visitors of all ages.

Is the festival free to attend?

Some parts are free, others require a ticket. We will soon announce the full program, including ticket information, via our website and Instagram.

How can I register for the Activism Design Challenge?

The competition will launch in September, once schools are back in session. Anyone can participate, even if you are no longer in school. Choose an existing or fictional artist, a belief, or an opinion as your starting point, and design a poster, flag, or vinyl sleeve. Check the dedicated page via the “Activism Design Challenge – Image = Protest” button.

I would like to participate as a speaker, artist, or partner. Is that possible?

We welcome collaborations, contributions, and also sensitive stories or questions.

Is the festival accessible to people with disabilities?

The main venue (Slachthuis Haarlem) is largely wheelchair accessible. If you have questions or need specific facilities, please contact us so we can explore the options together.
